Winter Romance at Battleford Farm

Winter Romance at Battleford Farm was created as a styled shoot to showcase local wedding suppliers, and as the photographer behind it, I wanted to capture the atmosphere of a crisp November day in the Devon countryside. Set among open fields, Battleford Farm proved to be an ideal blank canvas, offering a clean, versatile space that worked well for a winter setup filled with candlelight, rich colour, and thoughtful styling.

Although the venue is usually open only for spring and summer weddings, this shoot demonstrated how adaptable it can be. With the right team, the barn took on a warm and inviting feel, even in late autumn.
My photographic focus was on the qualities of candlelight. The warm tones created gentle highlights and shadows that worked well with the florals by JR Floristry. Once Upon a Time Plymouth styled the space with rich colours and considered details, which gave me plenty of strong compositions to work with.

The bride wore a gown and feathered jacket from Browns of Totnes, with handmade accessories by Claire Austen England. The accessories added interesting close-up details, and Claire’s involvement as both an accessories designer and as Claire Austen Wedding Celebrant added a nice dual perspective to the day.

Hair and makeup by Get Glamorous by Bea kept the look soft and natural, which suited the lighting and overall aesthetic of the shoot.
Happy Everly After created the stationery, including a bespoke illustration of Battleford Farm by Charlotte Chiverton Illustration. These paper details photographed well and helped tie the theme together.
Papaver Fine Art Cakes produced a cake decorated with sugar flowers that were impressively realistic. From a photographic point of view, they provided great detail shots.

Music by Laura Kate Music added to the atmosphere, while Southwest Wedding Stories captured behind-the-scenes content throughout the day.

This shoot aimed to highlight the talent of local wedding suppliers and show what can be achieved when a team comes together with a shared vision. For me, it was a chance to focus on detail, light, and collaboration, and to create a set of images that reflect the creativity of everyone involved.
